Rudra Abhishek Puja

Lord Shiva is referred to by various names like Mahadeva, Shankar, Mahesh, Kameshwar, and one of such names is Rudra. The Rudra Roop (face) of Lord Shiva is known to impact the Raudra Bhaava (one of the Navarasas), which is furious, fierce, and that of a destroyer. This Hindu deity is worshipped in the form of a Shiva Ling or Lingam all over the world, be it in temples or homes. The best way to worship and appease Lord Shiva is by performing an Abhishekam for him as the Lord loves to be worshipped in that way. 

Rudra Abhishek Puja means to give a holy bathe to the Shiv Lingam by making offerings out of a sacred mixture of several liquids like Gangajal (holy water of the river Ganges), milk, honey, curd, Chandan (sandalwood paste), sugarcane juice, Bilwa Patra (leaves of the Wood Apple tree), flowers like Kewda/Champa, Dhatura, Akand/Rui and aromatic oils. It is very integral while performing the Rudra Abhishek Puja to chant hymns, Jaaps, or Mantras in praise of the Lord.
